Man of Sorrows

He was despised and rejected–a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. –Isaiah 53:3, NLT

Though written nearly 700 years before the birth of Christ, Isaiah gives a profound prophecy regarding the declaration of Jesus’ atoning death for sinners. More than any other scripture, it proclaims the deep sorrow Christ endured during His painful resurrection and deplorable shunning from man.The details Isaiah gives concerning the pain and suffering of Jesus could have only come from God. Though there are many other names for God in the Scriptures, Isaiah is the only one to call Jesus a man of sorrows. Everywhere Jesus went, He was scorned and ridiculed. No matter how many miracles Jesus performed, or how many people He healed, or how many good things He did to help others, the crowd always criticized Him, demanding more miracles and questioning His Word and deity. Even Jesus’ own disciples didn’t believe Mary when she said He had risen from the dead, just as He promised. In spite of all of this, Jesus said the day would come when He will return for those who did not reject Him. He will take us to live with Him in Heaven where there will no longer be any type of sorrow, grief, rejection, or pain. We must be ready!

Heavenly Father: Forgive me for my part in causing you the pain and suffering you bore. You did this because of your vast amount of love for me, and I praise and thank you. Help me to live as though you are coming back today to take me to my heavenly home. I want to be ready! In Jesus’ name, Amen
